Applied to American Apparel the other day. Part of the application required photos of myself that conveyed my personal sense of style. Weird. Here is one my sister took for me..

Today’s outfit:
Paying tribute to my dear friend Catherine. She got me the blue cardigan and suggested the hat during her visit to NC this summer.
Can’t wait to see her again, whenever that may be :-)
Off to have dinner with Hbear and my sister’s friend, a fellow photographer I’ve been hearing about all summer. Fingers crossed we’ll be stopping by the new Red Mango on diversy too hehe..

Oh! I just found my All Access Backstreet Boys Video tape from 5th grade along with my framed picture of Nick Carter. Man was I cool..

It’s my last full day in NC. Tommorow evening I find myself in Chicago again. Reality STILL has yet to sink in..

Procrastination at it’s best.

Warning: I wrote this in 20 mins because I don’t feel like packing. In a few days I may recant everything said below. Who knows…

Okay, I haven’t really written anything politics related in a very long time. Especially since lately, my opinions have been anti-whatever everyone else thinks.

In a nation that is so Obama-fied, to say anything that goes against this administration is like committing social suicide. Especially if your social circle consists of mostly democrats, journalist, and minorities. The three these days seem to be synonymous to each other.. but that’s a whole new topic I don’t wish to get into..

Don’t get me wrong, I voted for Obama. I’ve met the man twice and think very highly of him.I absolutely love what he’s doing for healthcare. Loooove it. But that aside, it seems like the world cares more about his coolness than his actual abilities as our head of state and that bothers me. But that’s not his or his administration’s fault. I blame that on us, the people.

Moving on..

Maybe it has to do with my being a Poli Sci major that perhaps makes me instinctively think lowly of Journalists. Let me rephrase that. I don’t hate journalists. They are awesome people. They can write and write well, which many people can’t do. It’s just.. why are they so undeniably biased these  days?! We get it. You guys hate Old white Republicans. Better yet, we get it, you hate Republicans in general.

Anyways, I’ve been following Sotomayor’s confirmation hearings all week. Just read an article praising her performance in The Week Magazine.com. The title of the article is “What we learn about Sotomayor”.  This article sucked.

I could have rewritten this article in 7 words like so:

What we learn about Sotomayor?

by Jessica Kim

Nothing. But she is cool. I think.

Come to think of it, I could have tweeted that article.

Is it just me? Seriously..Yes, it’s cool that she was able to “win” this little liberals vs. conservatives game by holding out and saying nothing. Looks like all those law school classes paid off. Good job. That’s very.. cool? But can we please stop playing this stupid game and finally figure out who she is? Because I don’t know about you, but I actually want to know her stance on abortion, gay rights, etc. She’s not being nominated for just any seat here, it’s the SUPREME COURT! Am I really alone on this? At the END of the day, personal beliefs do play a role in a person’s decision. To say it doesn’t is naive. How you interpret the constitution derives from your own moral beliefs and ideology. Duh.

And this job she’s being nominated for, it’s for the rest of her life. Which means all that power she will have, she’ll have it for decades. The only person that’s probably able to fire her is the Grim Reaper.

(By the way, for those that don’t get it yet, I am in no way trying to argue that  Sotomayor’s most likely confirmation is whack. I’m simply stating that it would be nice to get to know who she really is and that maybe, we the people SHOULD demand more.)

It annoys me that these hearings ended up being more of a showdown between liberals and conservatives rather than a real interview process where we, the public or rather anyone in general, got to learn more about a specific candidate.

This only goes to solidify my growing hatred for partisanship and belief that it is what is bringing down the state of American Politics today. It’s crazy that I, Jessica Kim, am saying this. I’m almost ashamed of this blog post as I write.. My heroes that authored The Federalist Papers would be quite disappointed in me. But only if they could see what this country has become.. disappointed in me? No.. I bet they would be more disappointed in the American people.
